Volunteers are at the heart of this project
From the very beginning, the House Of Welcome has been fortunate to attract very committed and passionate Volunteers. Indeed, without them, all that the House of Welcome seeks to be would be unachievable.

Some volunteers work at the centre offering hospitality and assisting clients with requests for help especially referrals for professional assistance and to English classes. Compuers lessons are also given at the centre. Others organise respite holidays, and outings, and maintain ongoing social visits with clients. Arrangements are also made for volunteers to teach individuals in their homes.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call (02) 9727 9290.

Comments about the volunteers:
STARTTS (Service for the treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors) gave the following quote about HOW volunteers on their website:

The volunteers that work at the drop-in centre, are a lifeline for refugees and asylum seekers. They provide the administrative support required by the organisation as well as giving emotional support to clients. Volunteers also organise and take people on holidays and day outings, support them at interviews and medical appointments, and transport furniture for them. They visit families and regularly act as advocates on their behalf. Put simply: They are marvellous.

The staff at the House of Welcome agrees wholeheartedly with this comment.
